Fathers and Sons

 Daryl took Daniel to the Fathers and Sons campout with our ward. They slept overnight near Payson April 29th and 30. And, lucky for them, Daryl's dad and brother also live in our ward, so they got to be there too. They had a great time. Daniel could not stop talking about everything he and his daddy did together. This is the report he gave in his own words (as much as I can remember),

"We cooked marsh mellows on the fire. Mine got yucky. But it tasted yummy. I didn't do it all by myself. I had help so I don't flick fire on my forehead." (We don't even own Deniss the Menace)

Daniel- I went fishing!! But I didn't catch anything.

Me- Did Daddy fish too?

Daniel- No, but he took pictures...

Silly Sayings

My kids have been saying some pretty funny things lately. So, before I forget, I'm writing them on the blog.

Danie and Heidi were playing in the kitchen and spinning around in circles.
Daniel: Hold on!
Heidi: Hold on to your knickers cowboy!

The other day, I asked Daniel to go get dressed and come into the front room for scriptures. He found a shirt quickly, but took a few minutes to choose some pants to wear. Finally he came in wearing this...

and then he said "Now I look fancy... like a car!"

We were at my in-laws when Daryl got a call from someone in our ward. He ran over to their house for a bit to take a look at something for them, but he drove my father-in-laws hot rod instead of the suburban. When he got back, everyone could hear the car as he drove it up towards the house, especially Heidi. She turned to my mother-in-law who was sitting on the couch. She nudged her and yelled, "Did you hear that?! Did you hear that?! That's a HOT ROD!"

Daniel the Builder

A couple of days ago I made the kids some sandwiches for lunch, and stepped out of the room to check on something. I came back in to find Daniel "building" something. When I asked him what it was he said...

"See dis is cow house and you put dis on, and you put dis on top. And cows go in here!

Dis is deir house and I made dis gate right here and der cows go in here on boddom. Dis is deir new house. Deir new house broken so I make dem new one and put dis on top safely."

(And I thought sandwiches were just for eating. Who knew they made great building materials as well.)

"Moving"

This morning, I was doing something in the kitchen when Daniel came in and started spinning in circles. Then he stopped and said "Mommy look... I moving". Then he did it again... spun around and stopped. And again, he said "Mommy, I moving see?" I finally replied "It looks like you're standing still to me."
The he says..."No Mommy the whole house moving!"
(I just love to hear 3-year-old perspective on how the world works.)

"Bindi" and King Noah

For morning scriptures we had been reading in Mosiah about Abinadi. We recently read chapter 17 where Abinadi is put to death for his prophesies. When I finished reading Dainiel asked "What happened?"

"Bad-guy King Noah killed Abinadi because he didn't like what he was saying."

"Oh. Where Bindi mommy?" he asked

(I just love the pure hearts of little children)

"I don't know." I told him.

"Where piggy mommy?"

(He always holds his piggy and blanket for scriptures.)

"Where IS piggy's mommy?" I asked.

"At cow house."

Happy Halloween

We had a wonderful Halloween this year. We had a blast the week before at my in-laws for the Lamoreaux family party. We carved pumpkins, we ate dinner, we played games. Those that had one wore a costume, and we took lots of pictures of everyone. Unfortunately, I didn't get any with my camera. Sorry. As in years passed, the party was well done. Thanks Cheryl, for all of your hard work. You're my hero!

Halloween night was lots of fun too. Daryl's cousin, Courtney and her husband Bryan came over after dinner and trick or treated with us down a few streets in our neighborhood. Before we headed out, Daryl got some cute pictures of the kids.

This year they were Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Daniel had no trouble posing for the camera. Heidi wasn't happy about having to wear her ears for her picture.

She barely wore them at all for Halloween. Oh well.

10 Months

Heidi is 10 months old today! She is getting so big! She is now crawling about 75% of the time. Heidi is finally cutting teeth! Her first tooth is just barely poking throught on the bottom in the center, with atleast one more to follow. Even when she's cutting teeth she has a sweet smile on her face (as long as mom is holdign her.) She loves to stand holding on to everything. She'll even climb a little if she's feeling brave. Today she discovered the little picnic table. Daniel loves her. (Even if she DOES take his toys sometimes.) He often calls her "My Heidi" instead of just Heidi. Here he is holding her and giving her loves.

We love you Heidi! We are so blessed to have you in our family.

"Make it Dress"

Daniel and Heidi came in the office with me while I used the computer after nap for a little while. I turned around to check on them and found Daniel draping some old fabric remnants over an extra computer on the floor. When I asked him what he was doing he said "Make it Daniel dress." Luckily, I had the camera on hand. Here are some pictures of Daniel and his "dress". Notice the pride on his face as he shows it off. The next project will definitely be for Daniel. He's obviously feeling left out.

Water Waders and Flamingo

We had irrigation yesterday evening and Daryl was able to be home and play with us. Daniel accepted the invitation and had a great time wading through the water with his daddy. Heidi politely declined. She tried her best to curl her feed up to avoid getting wet. When that didn't work so well, she settled for standing on one foot. She looked like a little purple flamingo.

Easter Weekend - Saturday

Saturday, Daryl and I took the kids to Grandma and Grandpa Burgess' house for the annual Easter lunch and egg hunt. We each bring a type of sandwich and maybe one other dish to share. Those of us with children who still hunt for eggs also bring at least a dozen filled eggs to contribute. Normally the festivities are held entirely outdoors. This year we had to do everything inside, due to rain. Daryl took some great pictures of Daniel "hunting" in the living room. He had a great time!

He had the hardest time trying to keep his Easter bag on his shoulder.

Easter Weekend - Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday was such a beautiful spring day. The kids looked so cute in their Easter clothes. This Easter has been allot more fun, for me anyways, now that Daniel is getting old enough to be excited about things. This picture was taken right after we got home from church. If you look closely, you will notice the orange car in Daniel's hands. When he saw this remote control car in his Easter basket, he immediately fell in love. He literally refused to let go of it, even for a meal, for the next 3 days. All he wanted to do was... "dribe it" ...

Unfortunately, like most dollar store toys, the beloved car stopped working after only 3 days of life. I cut the cord last night to avoid any injuries. He still plays with it and carries it around some. But it's just not the same without the power. We'll miss you, little race car, in all your glory. (at least Daniel will)

"I Parky"

This morning Daniel decided he was a dog. He's done this a few times before, but this time he was really into it. I usually humor him and call him Puppy Dog. This time he told me, "I Parky!" (I'm assuming he said "I'm Sparky!") Where he came up with this name, I don't know. So, here are some pictures of Daniel, oh I mean "Parky" the Puppy Dog.

DIY Daniel Lesson 3

Hi again! Daniel here for DIY Daniel. Today we will be tackling a project that is a little more involved. So dust off those power tools and let's begin.

Lesson 3- Baby Swing Repair

Step 1: Crawl underneath the swing and look it over with your flashlight.

(Notice the tape measure on the tray of the swing. I had no idea that "measuring" was just the beginning of the process.)

Step 2: Now that you can see the problem, make sure your eye protection is on properly, and return to your work.

Step 3: Carefully drill the swing wherever necessary. You may need to put your feet on the swing to hold it steady while you work.

Step 4: You will also need to drill into the battery compartment to make sure the batteries are functioning properly.

Step 5: As we've mentioned in the past, it is important to sit back and admire your handy work.

DIY Daniel Lesson 2

Hello, and welcome back to DIY Daniel. Today's Lesson...

Lesson 2- Bike Repair

Step 1: Tighten any loose screws under your seat. We recommend an alan wrench for the job.

Step 3: Don't forget to make sure storage bucket is tight as well, and then you are done!! What and easy project. Even a two-year-old could figure it out.

DIY Daniel (Coming to a TV near you)

Hello, and welcome to our new show, DIY Daniel. I the up-coming episodes, we're going to teach you the steps you need to take to accomplish a few basic fixes around the house. (Please consider, while watching each "lesson" that Daniel comes up with this stuff all on his own. I just photograph.)

Lesson 1- Minor Construction

Step 1: Make sure you have all necessary supplies.

Step 2: Start with a strong foundation, and build from there.

Step 3: Stand back and show off your handy work

Daddy's Little Companion

Two weeks ago (when we still had 1:30 church) Daryl made appointments to go home teaching. When Daniel say him getting ready to go, he decided he should get dressed too. He ran into his room, moved the step in front of his bed and opened the drawer behind it. He pulled out 2 pairs of slacks and a vest. (I had been storing them there until he grew into them) He put on one of the pairs of pants over his pajamas, and went to show Daddy.

He also put on his vest, but decided he would hang it up instead.

He even tried on Daddy's Shoes.

Someday, son, you and Daddy will make great companions.

Powder Puff

I was pretty tired this morning after sort of a rough night with Heidi. Then, Daniel woke up early too and I had to send him back to bed. (Keep in mind that Daryl is "on-call", and was already gone for the morning to do a few jobs.) Luckily, I was able to fall asleep in my room with the baby asleep on our bed. Later, I vaguely remember Daniel coming in and asking to wash his hands. (Normally, this is no big deal. He often insists on washing even when his hands aren't visibly dirty.) Later, he came in again, and insisted on washing. This time, I was a little more awake, and looked at him to see what he was talking about. As you can see, he was covered in some sort of white powder.

I jumped out of bed, assuming it was flour, and hurried into the kitchen to asses the damage. There was no mess in the kitchen, or any of the other adjoining rooms. I decided to smell him to see what it was. It was baby powder!! I ran to Heidi's room and this is what I found...

He must have stood on the bottom shelf of the changing table and was able to get it from the top. I thought I'd put it out of reach. Apparently not.
